Rev. Dr. R.A. Hunter graduated from Oglethorpe County High School in 1975 and continued his secondary education at Albany State College, whereas he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education. He continued his education and graduated from The Agape International Christian University with a Doctorate in Theology.
After more than 28 years of service, Pastor Hunter retired as a Lieutenant Fire Prevention Officer and Certified Arson Investigator from Athens-Clarke County Fire Department. Pastor Hunter was raised in the church under the guidance of his devoted parents. Throughout childhood and adulthood, he has remained spiritually focused. After years of soul searching and communicating with God, he accepted his new journey of spreading God’s word in May of 2001.
He uses his ministry to advocate for those victimized by social injustice. Other facets of his ministry include pastoring New Springhill Baptist Church in Philomath, GA., counseling, teaching, and expanding his study of divinity.
Pastor Hunter remains committed to the improvement of local and global communities. Evidence of his service is demonstrated in his past and present affiliations: Former President of the Albany State University (ASU) National Alumni Association; President of the ASU Athens Area Alumni Chapter; Treasurer of the Augusta Youth Detention Center’s Advisory Council, Founding President and current President of the Concerned Men of Oglethorpe County; immediate past President of Oglethorpe County Ministerial Alliance; Moderator of the Third Shiloh Missionary Baptist Association; President of the Eighth District of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia and member of the advisory board to the Moderator/Ministers Coordinator of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia Inc.; Board member of Advantage Behavior Health Service of Athens, GA.
Pastor Hunter and his wife (Veronica) live in Colbert, GA and are the proud parents of four children (three daughters and one son).
